A unique species of frog that appears to be made of chocolate in the rainforests of New Guinea, Australia. A team of Australian scientists who came across this species named it “Chocolate Frog” because of its color and texture. Tree frogs are usually known for their green flesh tones, but because of their brown color, scientists stick to the name “chocolate frog.” Australian scientist Steve Richards first discovered the creature in 2016. He also collected several specimens for genetic testing and research.

During his discovery, Richards learned that the cocoa-colored frog is a new species and has joined our animal kingdom.

This “chocolate frog” is Litoria Mira Inspired by the Latin adjective mirum. The word mirum means surprising or strange, and correctly states that scientists were surprised, mostly after discovering the genus Holarctic tree frog in Australia.

Paul Oliver of the Center for Planetary Health and Food Security and the Queensland Museum describes this discovery as follows: journal “Multiple colonizations across the Torres Strait by tree frogs of the Litoria caerulea group, with descriptions of new species from New Guinea.”

In his statement through the Australian Zoological Journal, Oliver said: Litoria Mira Australian green tree frog is Australian green tree frog. The two seeds are similar, one is usually green, while the new one is usually a nice chocolate color.

Further investigation revealed that the Australian green tree frog (Litoria caerulea) was found in northern and eastern Australia and may be widely distributed throughout New Guinea.

About 2.6 million years ago, Australia and New Guinea were once connected by land. But now New Guinea is dominated by rainforests. Meanwhile, Steve Richards, co-author of the South Australian Museum, claims that frogs live in very hot and moist areas and are surrounded by many crocodiles.
